Emerald Conversation

Write for us

We welcome pitches that make conversation easier to understand: a sharply framed question, a useful comparison, a clear account of a discussion format, or a fresh look at a familiar habit. Emerald Conversation is for curious general readers, so proposals should explain the idea in plain language and avoid promising that one approach suits everyone.

What makes a good pitch

Tell us the central question, the main point you would help readers understand and why the subject merits its own piece. A strong proposal has a distinct angle, a sensible scope and a clear reader in mind. Please say what kind of piece you have in mind, such as an explanation, comparison, history or occasion-based guide.

Writing and sourcing

We look for clear, original writing that treats different experiences with care. Avoid presenting personal opinion as established fact, and tell us what sources or material support factual claims. We do not seek generic lists of conversation tips, copied work or claims that a technique can guarantee a particular response.

How to send a proposal

Send your pitch through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, a short summary, the intended reader and any relevant writing samples you would like us to consider. A proposal is not a guarantee of publication; please wait for a response before sending a full draft.
